The Year 5 and 6 girls welcomed St. Christopher’s to Reddiford for a much-anticipated annual Netball fixture. The Reddiford children were well prepared with a warm-up that incorporated passing, shooting and winning the ball, and the girls showed impressive focus on the task in hand.
The high standard of all of our players meant that Reddiford were able to field two strong teams to alternately take on the St. Christopher’s first team. The first quarter for each team began quite evenly, with goals scored by both teams, and Reddiford maintaining a steady lead. The Year 6 girls used their extra experience to control the pace of the game and Year 5 zipped around with inspiring speed, which in combination was quite a sight to behold!
At half time each member of the squad was able to reflect on an area for the team to improve on and the girls also took on board their individual targets. The resulting second half was a master class in how to play netball! I couldn’t have been more proud of the girls’ tactical awareness, and ability to put our plan into action.
Every player made a fantastic contribution, with the defenders marking their opponents closely, centre court players evading their partners and goals galore. A special mention goes to Anika for scoring fourteen goals and to Sophie who scored from the circle edge.
Thank you to all of our wonderful supporters, and we hope that it proved a good way for Myuni’s mum to celebrate her birthday!
